The Cruel Prince Series Review
I have just recently finish The Cruel Prince Series by Holly Black so I thought that I would compile my thoughts on each book in one blog post.
The Cruel Prince
Rating: 4.5/5
Before I started this book I had seen it all over the internet and was honestly peer-pressured into buying it, the cover is also so gorgeous and I just had to have it on my bookshelf. To say the least I had very high expectations for this book and the "hype" was true. The best way I can describe this book is that it feels like a fairytale for the Young-Adult audience. I loved the modern aspects that were tied into the plot. I also enjoyed how Holly Black created a variety of characters. What I mean by that is that in most YA fantasy novels you only really see one or two types of characters in one setting at a time (typically fae and human). But Black incorporated various types of characters ranging from humans, to a little boy with horns, and a burly general with green skin. The beginning of this enemies to lovers plot was also very intriguing and really struck my interest. This might have been the best enemies to lovers plot that I have read so far.
The Wicked King
Rating: 4/5
I really enjoyed the second book in this series! It was nice to see Jude and Cardan's relationship develop and to see them both grow as characters. The cliffhanger ending had me scrambling to start the next book. The development of the plot was also very interesting and I enjoyed it immensely!
The Queen of Nothing
Rating: 4.5/5
The third book was a whirlwind of emotions. Seeing Jude and Cardan's relationship come to a close was a nice ending to this trilogy. Jude Duarte made for an enjoyable main character and I loved her drive to help those she loves and save Elfhame.
How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories
Rating: 3.5/5
This illustrated novella was a great closure to The Cruel Prince trilogy. The short stories provided more insight to Cardan's early life and also gave us some more of Jude and Cardan which I personally couldn't wait to get more of their story. The illustrations were absolutely stunning and helped me picture some of the characters better.
